BEGINNING GROWING

Ever wanted to grow your own cannabis, but didn't know where to start? Dipped your foot into growing, but need some help with the headaches? Welcome to our cannabis growing starter guide--we hope you'll find what you're looking for.

Is growing hard?

If you can grow tomatoes in your garden, you can grow cannabis!  Growing outdoors is the easiest and most affordable way to dip your foot into growing.

We'll start with growing outdoors, as it is the simplest, easiest, and most effective way to grow cannabis. If you are totally unable to grow outside, check out our Indoor Growing Guide.

Seeds

Although clones can be easy, we recommend starting from seed--for a multitude of reasons. If you don't have any friends that can help donate to your cause, you can always find and purchase seeds online, or at your local dispensary.

Soil

If you plan on using the soil in your own yard,  please get it tested so we can formulate the right amendment for your crop and provide a feeding schedule.   If you would like faster results,  please use either of the following soils: Promix HP Myco, or Sunshine #4.
We prefer Promix, but if it is unavailable, Sunshine will do!

Location

You'll want to pick out a spot that gets 6+ hours of sunlight per day, with southern exposure.  The more sun the better!

Water

Good clean water.  We ONLY use filtered water, and recommend the same for others.

Pots

Plant in the ground! If you don't have a good spot in the ground, you can get started in a one-gallon pot, but your plant will have a much easier time reaching its full potential in a 25-gallon (or larger) pot.

Tools

Trowel, pruners, water container (such as a watering can or 5-gallon bucket,) spray bottle, measuring container.

Maintenance

Generally we water [feed the soil] 2 days/week, directing the water/root drench to the soil around the base of the stem. It is best to water early in the morning or in the evening, avoiding the hottest parts of the day. You won't need to trim your plant at all, but feel free to pull off any dead leaves and place them on the soil surface around the plant as mulch coverage.

Do

  • Promote airflow in and around the plant

  • Provide as much light as possible

  • Remove dead fan leaves

  • Allow soil to dry a bit between waterings
    (don't water wet soil)

Don't

  • Water heavy or damp soil.

  • Physically handle the buds--trichomes are delicate

  • Use unfiltered tap water.
We recommend filtered water at a minimum, with a preference for reverse osmosis when available.

The bottom line

Growing cannabis isn't hard, and like home-grown veggies, what we're able to produce at home is often significantly better than what's available for purchase at the store.
If you've ever wanted to dip your foot into growing for yourself, now's a great time to give it a shot.
